Greg Smith, R.N., P.C.
Attorney at Law

When a breadwinner or child has been seriously injured or killed by medical negligence, Justice requires the wrongdoer be held accountable.

In repeated studies, both Harvard Medical School and the General Accounting Office have estimated that over 50,000 Americans are killed each year by medical mistakes. That’s the equivalent of a commercial jet crashing each day. Unfortunately, these medical-related deaths are dwarfed each year by additional healthcare-related catastrophic injuries. Worse still is the response of medical providers and their insurers to this crisis: Instead of accepting responsibility and developing plans to limit such catastrophic damage, the healthcare industry and its insurers have systematically attempted (with significant success) to limit the rights of those they kill or permanently injure.

Greg established his practice 20 years ago in Salem, Oregon. Unlike many lawyers and law firms, his practice emphasizes one area of law: Medical Negligence Litigation.

Greg knows what medical negligence looks like. Before deciding to go to law school, Greg practiced for years as an RN in intensive care units in Minnesota, California and Oregon. There, Greg saw first hand both medical excellence and the results of medical arrogance, callousness and neglect. He saw patients killed and maimed. He watched physicians and nurses change medical records and lie to family members.

That medical background provides Greg with a unique understanding of the Mechanism of Injuries, that are frequently “covered up” - and a sincere incentive to obtain Justice for his clients.

Greg went to law school to represent injured patients and their families. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Willamette University College of Law, Salem, Oregon, in 1986.

Since graduation, Greg has represented patients throughout Oregon and is a frequent lecturer on Medical Negligence Litigation at Lawyer and Nursing seminars and at Willamette Law School.

The Oregon State Board of Nursing has determined that Greg’s efforts in helping injured Oregon patients has continued to constitute practice as an RN. Accordingly, he is one of the few Oregon attorneys who is “dual licensed” as both a health care provider and a lawyer.
